Okay, now I start actually talking about Gintama. Even FMAB started off on a good note that made me excited to see what would happen next.

GINTAMA THE SEMI FINAL SERIES

If you haven't noticed already, both of these series still had me extremely interested from the beginning. From its first few episodes I knew it was gonna be something special, and something special it sure was. It does fall into the same traps that a lot of its peers do (generic optimistic protagonist, action sequences with way too much dialogue), but it contains one of the most fun worlds and interesting power systems I've seen. HxH is without a doubt the best battle shounen I've seen, oozing with creativity and charm from every corner.

It's a great show from the start and it kicks into full gear at the tail-end of season one. LoGH is something that I have no problems calling a masterpiece and easily lived up to its godlike reputation. These two long anime were Legend of the Galactic Heroes and the 2011 adaptation of Hunter x Hunter. The main reason for this decision boils down to two things: a sense of obligation as a long-time anime enjoyer, and the last two long anime I had seen being extremely good. or at least I thought so because one day in early April 2021, I decided to dive head-first into Gintama. Of course I'm far wiser now and I'd never fall into a trap like this again. Hell, Fairy Tail and Akame ga Kill actually got worse as they went on. Fairy Tail, Naruto, Demon Slayer, Akame ga Kill-these are all anime that I was told would "start off bad and eventually become amazing," yet they never did. Of course it's possible for a series to get better, but not once in my life did something downright uninteresting or hard to enjoy become anything beyond passable. There was one line I kept hearing that made me want to continue avoiding it each and every time: "The first fifty episodes are bad, but it becomes a masterpiece after that." If you're familiar with anime, this quote should immediately trigger your fight or flight response. I've had the word of Gintama preached to me every time someone in a Discord server I'm in found out that I had not watched it. I've seen Gintama dominating the top slots on every anime website. I've heard people sing Gintama's praises since I was in middle school. Gintama, on the other hand, is a series spanning 369 episodes. Granted, this was a show I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end, and I don't particularly regret watching it. Never in a million years would I crown it as the masterpiece above all other masterpieces. The action is a blast and the characters are interesting but there are tons of issues that make it hard for me to call it a great show, from the rushed introduction to the intrusive comedy.

Having seen all sixty-four episodes, it's a good show, but it never gets past being just good. For example: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which is often considered by weebs to be the greatest anime-no-the greatest piece of media ever created. A lot of the most popular anime are tens of hours long, and I find that they usually fail to provide much more than fun and comfort.

That being said, a lot of anime can be long. There's a sense of comfort in it for me-a combination of visual taste, campiness, and nostalgia that never really died down. I enjoy indulging in the repetitive clichés, the oddball dialogue, and the bug-eyed character designs. I still watch and love anime in general, from the more complex affairs to the dumb bullshit that people unfamiliar with the medium see it as. I eventually did outgrow watching shounen anime for the most part, but I go back to it every once in a while. Of course, I just saw them as cartoons and never recognized them as "anime," but I was very fond of both the style and the tropes. I remember watching episodes of Inuyasha late at night and tons of Dragon Ball during the daytime. I don't see any reason for you to read this.įor as long as I can remember, I've always loved anime. If you're not interested in Gintama whatsoever. There will be no spoilers, so I do encourage that you read it if you're planning to get into the series or on the fence. Note: This is a review of the entire show.
